PNK Elephant

Just in time for the holidays, recently launched accessory site PNK Elephant is making a splash with fashionistas on a budget. The site features the hottest accessories of the moment at an unbelievable price. All items excluding the “exclusive pieces” do not exceed $35, which includes necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings. Founders Kijifa and Blair find inspiration for their designs from the streets of NYC and their favorite celebrities like Beyonce. Blair’s obsession with elephants inspired the name of the site. “Elephant's are hard to miss…and are a signs of good luck” Blair explained. Both owners are very hands on with the production of the site; from individually picking every item, to personally handling customer service including calling clients directly to answer any questions. The ladies are slated to release their own PNK Elephant accessory line by February 2011; expect to see lots of metals and stones. 

Stand out pieces from PNK Elephant’s current collection and great gift options include the “stone eye” necklace-$30 perfect for the upcoming holiday season, the super edgy “flex stone” ring-$18 and the festive “stone tail flower: earrings.

Where are the Prospect Heights shops

With a roster of events to attend tonight, I decided to head over to Pieces for a festive top for the night. Pieces is a Prospect Heights boutique where all the style mavens go. I was excitedly anticipating the racks of corky one-offs, when to my dismay Pieces is closed! The once go to local Prospect Height’s clothing store for men and women is no longer open. What is a fashionista to do? There’s the new Cobble Hills Barney’s but as you can imagine the prices are a bit steep. Than to the opposite side of the spectrum is Coup de Couer, which has moderately priced clothes but to be frank, the quality is subpar. Pieces for the most part was always a sure thing. Prospect Heights is in need of a trendy clothing store that features classic pieces at a responsible price. Who will full the Pieces void? Even with the bed bugs, I would love a Brooklyn TopShop. Since I know that won’t be happening anytime soon, guess I’ll be trucking it on the Q to Soho. 

Come on Prospect Heights, we already came up, now its time for our own signature clothing store for the locals.

Adrian Fanus Grooming Salon

I received an invitation to attend a private media event promoting Adrian Fanus grooming salon in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. From the photos on the invite, I expected to find an upscale storefront salon. As a true green Brooklynite, I decided to take the subway to the shop. The walk there was a bit sketchy. Perplexed and a little nervous as I passed the Clinton Hills projects, I thought to myself this couldn’t be the right location. Even more confusing was the plan nondescript building with the address for the event I was supposed to attend. Double checking my invite, no signage for the salon on the building or buzzers, walking to the corner to confirm that I was on the right block, I took a chance with luck, said a little prayer and entered the building. Proceeding up the stairs looking for any indication that I was at the right place-nothing insight when I heard sounds of chit chatter and movement coming from the top floor, again I took a chance with my sometimes-good fortune and heading to the top floor. Eureka! Before me the very pristine Adrian Fanus Grooming salon.

What a surprise when you enter the shop. It’s truly a different experience from the surrounding neighborhood. The intimate salon is tastefully decorated with large floor to ceiling mirrors that line the barber’s section and a cozy waiting area where complimentary glasses of wine are offered as you wait for your custom cut. The owner, Adrian explained that he purposely chose to keep his barbershop at a tucked away location in an undistinguish building to allow maximum privacy to his patrons who including celebrities like Forest Whitaker, Fonzworth Bentley and Idris Elba.

Walk-ins are not accepted though I doubt by the outside appearance that they ever receive those requests. Services start at $35 which includes a shampoo; other treatments offered include manicures and an old fashioned shave with a straight edge razor.

Judging by the appeased expressions on the recently cut men’s faces and from my female opinion, the cuts were on point.

If you’re are looking for a new barber with more of a personal approach, I definitely recommend checking out Adrian Fanus Clinton Hill salon.
